Glendale police: Officer shot, killed suspect

Glendale police identified Jorge Alberto Fuentes as the suspect who was shot and killed Tuesday when he pulled a gun on an officer during a brief pursuit.

PHOENIX, Ariz.- Glendale police identified Jorge Alberto Fuentes as the suspect who was shot and killed Tuesday when he pulled a gun on an officer during a brief pursuit.

Police said they responded to an armed robbery call near 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 7 a.m.

They had a description of the suspect’s car and plate number. Police said officers spotted Fuentes at his home when the pursuit began.

According to police, Phoenix police, Peoria police and Glendale police were all engaged in the pursuit but Glendale police confronted Fuentes when they stopped him at 43rd and Northern avenues.

Fuentes fired his gun while inside the vehicle when police were taking him into custody. Police said they used a Taser on Fuentes before he reached for his gun, but ultimately used lethal force on the 21-year-old suspect for the safety of officers and citizens.

The Glendale Police Department said no officers were injured.
