One Phoenix firefighter has been injured trying to put out a house fire Sunday in east Phoenix. The fire department said when crews arrived in the 3500 block of north 35th Place, they encountered heavy smoke and flames.
The fire was moving through the attic which created more problems for the fire department.
Crews punched a hole in the roof to vent the smoke and flames and eventually got the fire out in the older east Phoenix home.
The fire is under investigation. The firefighter who was injured was transported to the hospital with a leg injury, the fire department said.
No other injuries were reported.
