PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department has rescued a man stuck up on the face of Camelback Mountain.

The man was free-climbing the face of the mountain and was stuck approximately 200 feet up, the fire department stated. The department's technical rescue team responded to the scene.

The man's friends were able to get away from the dangerous area they were climbing at, authorities said. The man, who stated that he was not an experienced hiker and his legs were cramping, was not able to hike any longer.

The Firebird 10 pilots were able to fly the helicopter above the hiker, the fire department's public information officer stated. The helicopter then lowered an aircraft rescue technician to the spot where the man was located.

The firefighter then connected himself to the hiker and the helicopter lifted them both off the mountain safely, the fire department said.
