ASU professor accused of killing his wife in Scottsdale

Scottsdale police identified the suspect in the shooting as David Zhu.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A woman is dead after being shot by her husband in Scottsdale, the city's police department confirmed to 12News.

Scottsdale police identified the suspect in the shooting as David Zhu on Sunday.

Arizona State University has confirmed that Zhu is a professor at the university. A profile on ASU's website shows he works in the W.P. Carey School of Business' Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. He has been charged with first-degree murder, according to Scottsdale police.

“Our condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy,” ASU said in a statement following the shooting. 

The victim was identified on Monday as 46-year-old Susan Yijuan Yan. 

Police responded to a home for reports of a shooting near 136th Street and Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale on Saturday evening.

When police got to the house, they found a woman with a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital and later died from her injuries.

The couple's adult daughter and teenage son were also inside the house when the shooting took place, police said. 

Zhu was taken into custody at the house by officers.  

Scottsdale police's Crisis Intervention Services personnel are helping the family. 

The investigation is ongoing and there is no threat to the surrounding community, police said.
