Some classes at Garcia Elementary school are moving after environmental testing turned up potentially-elevated levels of lead dust in six classrooms, according to a release from Murphy Elementary School District.
As a precaution, the six classrooms are closed, and the occupied classes have been reassigned to other locations on the campus. The school is not closing, the district said.
Garcia Elementary has in the past faced problems with rats and black mold, according to that 26-page report released in October by Simon Consulting, the receiver credited with solving the financial catastrophe Murphy Elementary School District faced earlier this year.
That's why Garcia Elementary, along with three other schools in Murphy Elementary School District, underwent the environmental testing.
The district said parents and board members were notified immediately of lead dust in the classrooms.
