One suspect dead in trooper-involved shooting in west Valley, DPS says

The shooting happened Saturday night and authorities are still searching for a second suspect, DPS said.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. - The Arizona Department of Public Safety said one of two suspects in a trooper-involved shooting in the west Valley Saturday night is dead. Authorities are still searching for the second suspect.

According to DPS, a trooper was attempting to pull over a Chrysler minivan for speeding north of Interstate 10 on Jackrabbit and the driver failed to stop, which led to a pursuit.

The van flipped near Jackrabbit Trail and Lewis Avenue and two suspects got out of the van and began shooting at the trooper, who fired back.

One of the suspects, identified as 40-year-old Jose German, of Phoenix, was shot by the trooper and has since died from his injuries. The other suspect fled and authorities are still searching for him Sunday evening.

The trooper suffered minor injuries, DPS said.
