DUI, extreme speed suspected in Goodyear crash that killed 2, left 3 injured

Police said the crash happened on 155th Avenue and Indian School Road on Sunday evening.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — A man is facing DUI and manslaughter charges after a three-vehicle crash in Goodyear left two people dead and injured three others, according to authorities.

The crash happened near 155th Avenue and Indian School Road on Sunday evening. 

Investigators said Andrew Lugo was racing a Jeep Wrangler when they were involved in a crash with a Chevy Cruze. The drivers in the Jeep and Cruze were both killed in the crash, they have been identified as 43-year-old Brian Rose and 58-year-old Douglas Shippy. 

According to the Goodyear Fire Department, the three injured people were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unavailable.

Court documents show Lugo's blood-alcohol level more than three hours after the crash was .15 and he was driving 80-90 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Lugo's fiance and her 8-year-old daughter were in the vehicle, court documents say. 

The fire department said one of the vehicles involved caught fire.

Lugo was taken into custody and booked into Maricopa County Jail. He's facing the following charges: 

  • Manslaughter 
  • Endangerment
  • Aggravated DUI with a passenger under 15
  • Extreme DUI 
  • Exhibition of speed
