You know those arcade games that show a five-minute video and the chairs move up and down, left and right? There are two theaters in the Valley offering the same technology to watch summer blockbusters.
"It's like an hour and a half roller-coaster throughout the entire movie," said Dan Terry, director of entertainment for UltraStar Multi-tainment Center in Maricopa. "You can turn up the intensity as much as you want and you can turn it down."
The chairs jolt in all directions and also vibrate. D Box gets a pre-finalized version of movies and spends anywhere from 12 to 16 weeks syncing the motion to the motion picture.
"The best movie I've found is 'Fast and Furious,'" said Terry. "One of my other favorites was 'Battle Zone Los Angeles.' Anything with a lot of action, a lot of gunfire or a lot of racing cars."
Terry also said horror movies also keep you on the edge of your seat.
"I thought it was pretty cool," said Kiera Sprout, a D Box first-timer. Sprout watched part of "Terminator Genisys" and tested the chairs out. "I thought it was pretty exciting how when a gun goes off, it vibrates on your back. I never knew it goes back and forth. It was literally all motion."
The two movie theaters that offer D Box technology are UltraStar Multi-tainment Center in Maricopa and Digiplex Surprise IMAX in Surprise. Both are about 40 minutes from downtown Phoenix (in non-rush hour traffic). The UltraStar price is about $18-$19/seat.
