West Phoenix roadway flooded, car stuck in apparent sinkhole, woman hurt after crash

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near 75th and Virginia avenues, Phoenix police said. One woman is in the hospital.

PHOENIX — A woman is hurt, a car is in an apparent sinkhole and a west Phoenix roadway is flooded after a car crash Wednesday morning.

Phoenix police said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near 75th and Virginia avenues.

At this time it's unknown what led up to the crash, but police shared that an adult woman was hospitalized in critical condition and a fire hydrant was struck during the collision.

Helicopter footage of the area shows water pouring out of the damaged hydrant and flooding down the roadway.

It also shows a car in what appears to be a flooded sinkhole nearby.

Officials have shut down the intersection for the investigation and expect to have more information later in the day.
