MESA, Ariz. — Two children have died after a car crash on Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa, officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed.
The crash happened on the highway near McKellips Road Wednesday morning. The collision involved a tow truck stopped on the shoulder and a pickup truck that hit the flatbed tow truck.
DPS said three kids were in the pickup truck. A 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl died. The third child and the truck's driver sustained minor injuries.
DPS is conducting an investigation into the crash.
