Phoenix PD identify man who was found shot to death on I-10

The man's death has been ruled a homicide and police are looking for possible suspects.

PHOENIX — A man who was found with fatal gunshot wounds inside a car on Interstate 10 earlier this month has been identified.

Phoenix Police said state troopers first responded to a single-car crash around 3:30 a.m. on June 10. First responders found a man inside who had been shot.

He was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The man has been identified as 39-year-old Lealdo Tolano and his death has been ruled a homicide. The victim was driving a gray 2009 Ford Escape.

Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting.

The death investigation on I-10 near 7th Avenue brought traffic to a near standstill for several hours on June 10.

Sky12 video showed a single SUV with significant front end damage at the center of the scene.

"Our investigators combed through much of the freeway that was shut down, looking for evidence whether they believed it was there or not," Phoenix Police Sgt. Rob Scherer said.
