GILBERT, Ariz. — Country singer Colt Ford was recently hospitalized in Mesa after suffering a heart attack just after performing at a Gilbert venue.
The heart attack happened after a show at Dierks Bently's Whiskey Row in Gilbert on Thursday, according to a representative for the singer.
Ford was rushed to the ICU at Banner Desert Medical Center immediately after the heart attack.
A spokesman for Ford said the singer has since been moved to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. The spokesman said Ford is in "stable but critical" condition as of Friday afternoon.
He is known for several chart-topping hits as well as writing Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem.”
Fans at Thursday night's show said they had no idea anything was wrong.
“The only thing I'd say is toward the end he kind of looked tired," Kelli Williams said. "But, I mean, he went 110% and he was all over the stage and interacting with the crowd."
"When we're walking to the car, you could just hear all the sirens," she said. "And then when we heard about it, it was like 'oh man, I hope he's OK.'”
