Couple visits 200+ Costcos, says Scottsdale warehouse has largest liquor section

A Costco-loving couple shares insider secrets about the warehouse while stopping in the Valley.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Valley of the Sun has several Costco locations, and according to a couple of Costco-loving book authors, the Scottsdale warehouse has one of the best liquor sections in the country.

David and Susan Schwartz adore the retailer Costco because of the good quality and great prices. The couple has visited more than 220 Costco locations in 14 countries, including the U.S. They spent seven years traveling, researching and writing a book called "The Joy of Costco: A Treasure Hunt from A to Z."

12News met with them while they were road tripping across the country to visit even more locations.

The duo has seen some pretty interesting locations, There's even a special Costco that's got a huge liquor section — it's one of the biggest in the world. The store even has two wine experts in that section, Susan said.

The Schwartz' are referring to the warehouse on Hayden Road in Scottsdale, where they said there are two sommeliers on site. They also shared some insider secrets during their stop in the Valley.

"Look out for what we call the Death star. It's a little asterisk in the right hand corner of the price labels," Susan said. "That's the indication that the product is going to be discontinued either temporarily or permanently. So if you like something and it has a death star, snap it up now."

Other perks Costco members have are discounts for some rentals.

"We only rent our cars through Costco. It's about 20 percent less," Susan said.

She added Costco could help Arizonans save thousands on certain essentials.

"My hearing aids were $1,500 at Costco," Susan added. "They'd be $10,000 anywhere else."

An annual membership starts at $60 a year for two people. To see more membership perks, click here.
