Chandler police shoot suspect in a domestic violence situation

The suspect remains in critical condition, police say.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Police shot a suspect in a domestic violence situation on Friday.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Cody Charles Long, of Phoenix. 

Chandler police responded to the area near Chandler Boulevard and Interstate 10 on Friday around 11:30 p.m. for a domestic violence incident. Officers contacted the suspect on the southwest side of the property who "immediately began shooting at them," police said.

Chandler police officers shot back, hitting the suspect. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is now listed as stable, police said.

No officers were injured. 

When Long is released from the hospital he is expected to be booked into jail on multiple felony charges relating to the domestic violence incident which include aggravated assault - strangulation and kidnapping. He will also face charges for the shooting incident which include multiple counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

The victim was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries from the domestic violence incident.
