CHANDLER, Ariz. — The City of Chandler has a new police chief.

Bryan Chapman has been named the new chief of the Chandler Police Department, officials said Wednesday. According to a release, Chandler City Manager Josh Wright announced the hiring.

“I am excited to welcome Chief Chapman as our new police chief to build upon our culture of service, innovation and engagement that prevents crime and earns community trust,” said Wright. “His leadership of the Chandler Police Department will help implement technology, training and practices to remain one of the nation’s safest cities and one of the top law enforcement agencies in the country.”

Chapman worked for more than 25 years in law enforcement and served the City of Phoenix since 1999. He was Phoenix’s assistant police chief for the past three years with responsibility for the Employment Services Bureau, Training Bureau and Organizational Integrity Bureau.

The new chief also previously fulfilled leadership positions and assignments in several areas of the Phoenix Police Department.

“I am honored to join Team Chandler and work alongside the incredible men and women of the Chandler Police Department,” said Chapman. “Together, and with community collaboration, we will focus on the continuous improvement of the organization to keep Chandler safe for residents, businesses and visitors.”

He graduated from the Senior Management Institute for Policing and Arizona State University’s Certified Public Manager program. He also earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo.

Chapman's new role is expected to start on April 8.
