Not many colleges can lay claim to a 400 plus member band or a 100-year history of the marching squad. But Arizona State University is celebrating both this year.
An archival photo of the first ASU Marching Band shows 18 members, 17 men and one woman, posed on the steps of the current day building known as Old Main. At the time the school was known as Tempe Normal School.
Both the band and school have grown and changed, but one thing has remained the same; once a band member, always a band member.
The Sun Devil Marching Band is calling back all members for this year's homecoming on November 14 to done the maroon and gold again and pour out of the Tillman Tunnel at halftime.
Whether you are willing to march or choose to stay in the stands and contribute to the tunes, The Pride of the Southwest is looking to get as many members back in Sun Devil Stadium to mark a century of service.
