The Buckeye Police Department said Wednesday that all Verrado High School students are safe, but the school was on lockout for several hours.
The situation was in response to reports that a student may have brought a gun to school.
No students or parents who are not on campus already could get onto the school's campus during the lockout, and nobody on the campus was allowed to leave, Buckeye PD said.
A lockout is different from a lockdown in that operations inside the school are relatively uninterrupted, a Buckeye PD spokesperson specified.
Buckeye PD said it will keep extra officers on the school's campus for the rest of the day.
