Brush fire in Mesa destroys 1 home, damages another and forces residents in the immediate area to evacuate

MESA, Ariz. — Fire crews are responding to a brush fire that has spread to two homes in Mesa, Rural Metro Fire said. At least one home has been completely destroyed.

According to Rural Metro Fire, crews responded to University Drive and Crimson Road for a brush fire that spread to structures. The fire is believed to have started from downed power lines behind the homes, Rural Metro Fire said. 

Crews from Mesa and Rural Metro worked together to battle the fire and are currently extinguishing hotspots. No injuries have been reported, but one elderly woman was treated for heat exhaustion, Mesa Fire and Medical said. 

Residents in the immediate area have been evacuated.
