APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz — Emergency officials evacuated homes and livestock in an area of Apache Junction due to a brush fire reported Tuesday that has since been contained, according to officials.
The fire was reported north of McKellips Road and east of Tomahawk Road, near Lost Dutchman Boulevard. The roads were shut down, police said.
Superstition Fire said the "fire’s forward progress has been stopped" and crews are working on "mopping up the fire."
"Several horses were turned loose to save them from this fire," the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. All of the animals have been returned.
No structures have been damaged and only a couple of homes have had to be evacuated, officials said.
This is a developing story. Updates will be posted here as they are received.
