GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Body camera footage obtained by 12 News reveals more about a former sixth-grade teacher Brittany Zamora and her 13-year-old student she’s accused of sexually abusing.
Body cam video shows the 28-year-old woman getting arrested.
As she makes her way into the Fourth Avenue Jail in downtown Phoenix, Zamora asks an officer if she can brush her hair towards her face so media cameras don’t’ record her face. The officer responds, “You’ll be fine, OK?"
Once she’s taken into the interrogation room, a detective officer gives her a chance to speak.
“I’m going to give you an opportunity to explain what happened,” the detective said, but Zamora responds. “Can I have an attorney?”
The former teacher then expresses concerns over inmates at the jail.
“I’m little. They’re going to tear me apart,” said Zamora.
More body camera video shows a long interview detectives conduct with the boy’s parents.
The boy’s stepmom tells detectives what her son told her:
"'So we just need you [her son] to tell us the truth,' so we showed him the conversation and we said, ‘Who is this? Who are you talking to?’ And he said, ‘My teacher.’ So then my husband—we are very blunt with our kids. We are open and we have had conversations with him growing up and all that. And so my husband just told him, ‘Have you done anything with your teacher? Did you have sex with your teacher?’ And he said yes."
Zamora’s husband is also seen in body cam footage as officers make their way to his West Valley home.
As officers converse with him, Zamora’s husband asks detectives about his wife, but they tell him they cannot discuss the matter.
“She’s a good person, the best person I’ve ever know,” Zamora’s husband said.
