Bicyclist dies after crash in Glendale

A 66-year-old man was struck early Thursday morning, officials with the Glendale Police Department said.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A 66-year-old man has died after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle Thursday morning, officials with the Glendale Police Department said.

The crash reportedly happened just after 4 a.m. near 51st and Glendale avenues. First responders found the man with serious and life-threatening injuries, police said.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police temporarily closed the roadway between the intersections of 51st and Glendale avenues and 51st and Maryland avenues for the investigation. It has since reopened.

"The driver of the vehicle located an officer doing paperwork in a nearby parking lot and self-reported the collision," Glendale police said. They don't suspect that impairment played a part in the crash.

The man's identity wasn't released.
