PHOENIX — An investigation is underway after a bicyclist was fatally struck on a Phoenix roadway late Monday night. According to Phoenix police, impairment and speed may have been factored into the crash.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. near Cave Creek Road and Dynamite Boulevard, police said. When officers arrived, they found the man injured in the roadway.

First responders pronounced the bicyclist, identified as 37-year-old Michael Hutchinson, dead on the scene, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle involved, an 18-year-old man not identified by police, remained at the scene, police said.

"Impairment and speed are believed to be a factor in this collision," police said.

Investigators are working to learn more about what led up to the crash.

A decision on whether charges will be filed will come after reconstruction of the crash has been completed and the toxicology report released.
