Attention all recent grads: Tempe is one of the best places to start your career

Tempe has favorable conditions for those new to the job market such as entry-level job opportunities, job growth rate and workforce diversity while also having an overall good quality of life, according to a new study.

We’ve all heard the saying, “location, location, location!” And when searching for the perfect job, location does play a big role in the decision. A new study ranks one Valley city in the top 5 places to start a career.

Tempe is ranked No. 5 in WalletHub’s latest analysis that compares the relative market strength and overall livability of the 150 largest cities in the country to determine which cities are the best and worst to plant yourself for a prosperous career.

According to the study, Tempe has favorable conditions for those new to the job market such as entry-level job opportunities, job growth rate and workforce diversity while also having an overall good quality of life. Entertainment, housing affordability, commute time and share of population who are 24-34 years old were some factors analyzed to measure the quality of life.

And all that makes sense with Arizona State University's main campus in Tempe, the light rail and night life opportunities. Not to mention some big companies have headquarters in Tempe including First Solar, LifeLock and Insight Enterprises.

Tempe ranks below Grand Rapids, Austin, Orlando and Salt Lake City on the list. Other Valley cities that made the list are Scottsdale, coming in at 18, Chandler, 40, Mesa, 64, Gilbert, 77, Peoria 83, Glendale 87, Phoenix, 95, and Tucson at 101.
