Arizona Science Center ‘cracks’ Guinness World Record for largest object drop experiment

The science center, alongside Valley students and others, dropped 155 eggs safely into water-filled cups on Oct. 19 to successfully break the record.

PHOENIX — Dropping eggs is not usually cause for celebration.

But at the Arizona Science Center, 155 dropped eggs is not just a celebration, it is a record-breaking celebration: the Arizona Science Center now holds the Guinness World Record for the largest object drop inertia experiment in recorded history.

The science center and Valley students, alongside others as well, took the Community Stage at the Arizona State Fair to attempt to drop 250 eggs – which spanned across five, six-foot long tables – into 250 glasses of water on Oct. 19.

The previous record was held by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest – the pair dropped 138 eggs on air during "LIVE with Kelly and Ryan" four years ago.

And this isn’t the first record the science center has broken, either. The team also created the world's largest scissors.

“While our first record was an internal team effort, this attempt allowed us to invite members of the community to participate in this momentous occasion,” Guy Labine, The Hazel A. Hare president & CEO of the Arizona Science Center, said in a press release.

Wondering what happened to all of those eggs? The Arizona Science Center donated all of the eggs used in the experiment to the Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Hope for Hunger Food Bank.
