PHOENIX — Minu Cash said she has always battled with a feeling of "otherness" in her life.

The Arizona native grew up in Cashion, a neighborhood in Avondale, Arizona, surrounded by her Mexican family — whom she did not look like, what with her light skin and hair. She had a peculiar name. She drew comments and stares from neighbors and strangers alike. Amid her feeling like an outsider, Cash also dealt with her father's violence, her mother's negligence and the poverty and drugs in her neighborhood.

But at age 44, she discovered a family secret which turned the life she knew upside down.

Refusing to always have this feeling of otherness loom over her life, Cash set out to get some answers, overcome generational trauma and forge her own path. That's the story she shares in her debut novel, "The Painted Pink Dress."

"The Painted Pink Dress" is Cash's memoir, announced in October of 2023 and set to hit shelves June 18. The book follows her journey to confront the one person who knew the truth — the one person who could give her the peace she craved.

“I’m delighted to reveal the cover and release date of my memoir,” Cash said in a press release.

Cash said she hopes her story will give readers the strength to confront the truth — “and inspire them to move past their own trauma.”

When Cash isn't reading a good book, she enjoys traveling and cooking for her loved ones. "The Painted Pink Dress" is her first book and it will be published by Sandra Jones Publishing.
