PHOENIX — Days are getting warmer and summer is coming. What better time to adopt your furry best friend than now?

The Arizona Humane Society is offering free dog adoptions from April 3 to April 7 as part of BISSELL Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelter" campaign. Anyone who is looking to adopt a dog can go to any of the AHS locations across the Valley and adopt with no fee.

AHS is caring for almost 1,000 pets between three locations and foster homes, with more animals coming in each day. Just like Colonel Cabbage: a 3-year-old Pug rescued as an injured stray last month.

Colonel Cabbage had a severely injured eye when an AHS emergency animal medical technician found her. After going through surgery, Colonel Cabbage has made a great recovery and is one of countless pets you can adopt for free through Sunday.

All adopted pets from AHS are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. They also have a free follow-up at the VCA Hospital pet exam. For more information, you can visit the AHS adoption website here.

Not looking to adopt quite yet? You can still help AHS provide care for dogs by fostering. For more information, head to the AHS foster website.
