PHOENIX — Mother's Day is coming up and many of us will celebrate by giving mom a beautiful bouquet of her favorite flowers.
While the flowers are beautiful and smell incredible, they could have unintended consequences for your pets.
Some of the flowers and plants you may be giving to your mother may be toxic to your pet animals. According to HouseDigest, there are several flowers you should avoid this holiday.
Stay away from lilies
Lilies are a beautiful springtime flower, but they are also dangerous. According to experts, lilies are very toxic to cats and also pose a risk to dogs. Keep your cat from eating the plant as it could cause severe issues if it is ingested.
Avoid foxgloves
Those tall, slender plants with tubular flowers are foxgloves. They often grow in shades of pink, purple and white. Veterinarians say the plant contains cardiac glycosides. that can cause several issues including upset stomach, drooling, vomiting and diarrhea.
Daffodils can be deadly
The iconic yellow petals will brighten up any flower arrangement, but it will darken any dog's day who eats a Daffodil. The flower can cause vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and cardiac arrhythmias if ingested.
Tulips are a no-go
Everyone loves a good tulip, but your pets may not. The popular plant is known to cause intense toxicity symptoms in pets. So let's try and skip tulips this year.
These are just a few flowers to avoid. For a more complete list as well as symptoms to keep an eye on, head over to the HouseDigest website.
