Family seeking answers after man dies in accident at APS power plant

The mechanic was contracted to work on a 10-day project at the Arizona facility when the accident happened.

ARLINGTON, Arizona — A California man died in a tragic accident at a power plant in Arizona.

Family is remembering 50-year-old Mike Olver as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mike Olver was a valve mechanic working as a contractor at the APS Redhawk Power Plant in Arlington, Ariz. when he was involved in an accident.

Jennifer Olver told 12News the family was given very little information about her husband's death, but knows he had been working on a crane and fell.

Mike Olver died from blunt force trauma, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.

The Olver Family has several unanswered questions as they hope what happened their loved one doesn't happen to anyone else.

“What exactly happened? Why did he fall? How did he fall? What could have been done to prevent that from happening," Jennifer Olver said.

APS sent 12News a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the death of a contractor at the Redhawk Power Plant last week. There were no impacts to other individuals at the plant, the public or plant operations due to the incident. An investigation is underway. The safety of our crews and customers will always be a top priority for APS."
