PHOENIX — Hazmat crews reported to an ammonia alarm going off at a large warehouse near 61st Avenue and Washington Street Monday night. There was a strong odor when they arrived.
The Fry's Food and Drug warehouse was evacuated before crews arrived, and nobody reported any ill effects.
Firefighters said they detected positive readings of ammonia and entered the building to try to find the source of the leak. Crews believe the leak was contained to the southern end of the system.
Ammonia readings steadily dropped as firefighters ventilated the warehouse.
The cause of the leak is under investigation.
