PHOENIX — Phoenix police said a 5-day-old boy taken from a Phoenix hospital Wednesday morning has been found safe.
An Amber Alert had been issued for "Baby Santana," who was last seen around 1:20 p.m. at Valleywise Health Medical Center near 24th and Roosevelt streets.
Law enforcement was concerned for the boy because he has an attached feeding tube and needs life-saving medical treatment.
Police said the newborn is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital. Authorities said the baby's mother, Rosa Santana, is in police custody.
Officials announced Thursday that the baby was found at a west Phoenix apartment.
Phoenix police said this is still an active investigation and they expect to release additional details Thursday morning.
Valleywise issued the following statement Wednesday night.
"On Wednesday, July 12, a mother removed her 5-day-old infant from Valleywise Health Medical Center against medical advice. In response to this incident, Valleywise Health took immediate action to search for the mother and infant and is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
We believe that the safety and security of each patient is integral to the mission of our hospital. We are appreciative of the swift actions of our team members and will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure a safe return of the infant."
