Airbnb deploying AI-driven anti-party system to prevent Halloween parties at host properties

Airbnb is using AI to help identify one-night and two-night booking attempts that pose a party risk and prevent those bookings from being made.

ARIZONA, USA — Airbnb is using AI technology to crack down on Halloween parties in host properties in Arizona.

The AI helps identify one-night and two-night booking attempts that pose a party risk and prevents those bookings from being made.

"The technology looks at hundreds of signals relating to the booking attempt that could indicate a higher risk for a disruptive or unauthorized party incident, including the length of the trip, the distance to the listing, and whether the booking is last-minute," the company said on its website.

Airbnb implemented its anti-party system for Halloween last year and saw a decrease in reports of disruptive and unauthorized parties over the holiday weekend.

"In Arizona, approximately 2,900 people were deterred from booking an entire home listing on Airbnb last Halloween due to those defenses," the company said in a release.

The company said the tech will be used across the country.

What is the Valley?:

“The Valley” is what locals call the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is considered the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest.

The Valley is made up of various major cities other than Phoenix, including:

  • Mesa
  • Chandler
  • Scottsdale
  • Tempe
  • Glendale
  • Surprise
  • Peoria
  • Gilbert
  • El Mirage

Whether a city is in the “East Valley” or “West Valley” depends on where it is in relation to Phoenix.
