PHOENIX — New Year's resolutions don't have to be hard.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has one resolution that would make even the drivers around you happy: use your blinker.

An ADOT sign on Loop 202 at McKellips Road says simply, "New year, new you. Use your blinker."

Looking for a New Year's resolution? We've got you.

It isn't the first time the transportation department has asked Arizonans to make use of their turn signal. A sign just before the Super Bowl in Glendale reminded drivers to signal a turn.

It may be for a good reason. AAA reports that "U.S. Department of Transportation statistics show that one in four drivers fails to signal when turning, and twice as many neglect to do so when changing lanes."

Using a blinker will let drivers around the vehicle, who may be in a blind spot, know that you're moving over.

"Nearly 40 percent of a vehicle’s outer perimeter is hidden by blind spots, which means drivers may not always be able to see other traffic in the vicinity," the AAA report said.

This is just one way to make it a safer 2024 on Arizona roads.
