Wednesday at the Arizona State Capitol, crowds are scheduled to show up for a planned event.

Phoenix Unity, a grassroots citizens group, is participating in the event and standing with others on strike at the state capitol. Organizers say this is a day for female family members and friends to make sure women have the rights they deserve.

Wednesday also marks International Women's Day, which, in part, draws attention to inequalities women face at work, compared to men. It aims to raise awareness about lower wages, job insecurity and harassment.

However, some are complaining Wednesday's events leave women in a tight situation.

While 12 News has not received any reports of school closures happening in Arizona, CNN reports some schools in Maryland and other states are shutting down for the day. The schools reportedly announced last minute closures Tuesday night, to allow women to participate.

The move is leaving families scrambling to find daycare.

Wednesday's event kicks off at noon at the Arizona State Capitol. Women are encouraged to wear red whether they participate in person or not.
