Chaparral HS student killed in Scottsdale crash

The fatal crash occurred early Saturday morning.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A Valley high school student is dead following a crash in Scottsdale early Saturday morning. In total, eight people under the age of 18 were involved in the crash, police said.

Scottsdale police officers responded to the area of Jomax and Scottsdale roads around 1 a.m. and found an overturned Polaris. Polaris is a company that produces various off road and all terrain vehicles, according to their website. Eight minors were in the vehicle, police said.

Two of the occupants of the car were injured. One later died while at the hospital, police said.

Police said "for the sensitivity of the family" and because all of the people involved are under 18, they will not be releasing names.

Details surrounding what led up to the crash were not released.

Police said no criminal or civil charges are pending in relation to the crash.

Chaparral High School announced that the deceased individual was a student at the Scottsdale school.

"By all accounts, this student was a kind and happy person who had many positive relationships at school," the school wrote in a letter to parents. "Naturally, this tragic loss within our community impacts our students, staff members, and families."
