Water temperature in the 40s for Peoria Polar Plunge

The free event Saturday involves jumping into an unheated swimming pool.

If you wanted to jump into 40-degree water, you can on Saturday.

The free event sponsored by the City of Peoria, Arizona, promotes water safety but spreading awareness and raising money for children's swimming lessons.

Join in Saturday, January 5, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Sunrise Pool at 21321 N. 86th Dr., Peoria.

The event is free and includes the brisk swim, free shirts, and free breakfast. Participants are encouraged to donate to help fund swimming lessons for children. A $25 donation can fund two weeks of lessons for a child, the City of Peoria says.

The Sunrise Pool in Peoria is not heated after November, so the water temperature is expected to be in the low 40s.

Today in AZ will be live from the event on Saturday morning.
