64-year-old man hit, killed by car in Phoenix

Impairment was determined to not be factor but speed appears to be, police say.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a car on Wednesday night. 

Around 10:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to a neighborhood near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road. 

A man, later identified as 64-year-old Herman Nakai, was found in the roadway with critical injuries. He died at the scene, police say. 

Investigators say he was hit by a car. Police found the 45-year-old driver. Two other people were in the car at the time of the crash.

Impairment was determined to not be a factor in the crash but speed appears to be, police say. 

The investigation is ongoing.
