Inmates assaulted six corrections officers at the state prison in Kingman Wednesday night.
An Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman said he wouldn't classify the current situation as a riot but more of a disturbance by a group of inmates in the Cerbat Unit, which is a minimum security section of the facility.
Officials said the incident, which is still not under control, started earlier this evening when prisoners were pursuing another inmate and assaulted six staff members who intervened. All had minor injuries. Five were treated on site and one other was transported offsite for treatment.
Officials said all staff and inmates were accounted for, but additional staffing and resources were en route to that unit and were working to get the inmates involved in lock down for the night.
Prison officials said they did not know how many inmates were involved, but the unit contains about 2,000 men.
