GILBERT, Ariz. - Four people escaped a house fire that started about 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Gilbert Fire Department.
The blaze burned mostly the attic area across the footprint of the 6,700-square-foot home near Higley and Elliot roads.
One person inside was alerted by smoke detectors. She got everyone out and called 911.
Fire officials say crews switched to a defensive strategy to dodge any potential roof collapse after learning everyone was out safely.
The flames burned for more the three hours.
Investigators are working to determine a cause.
