3rd-grade girl narrowly escapes abduction outside Phoenix Walmart

A man who witnessed the entire incident, but didn't want to go on camera, told 12 News the girl, and he friends, frantically ran to safety at the Walmart tire shop.

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department is investigating after a little girl was almost abducted outside a Walmart on 75th Avenue and Encanto Blvd.

Cartwright School District sent out a letter to parents warning them of the incident, which happened Tuesday morning, March 27, before school.

In the letter, the district writes, "The safety of our students is a top priority at the Cartwright School District and we are cooperating with police in their investigation."

According to the letter, four students were approached by a man as they were walking to school.

The man grabbed one of the students by her jacket, but the girl was able to escape.

The four girls included a second grader, third grader, and fifth grader, who all go to Manuel Pena Elementary.

A sixth grader who goes to Raul H. Castro Middle School was also with them.

Phoenix police were called, but the suspect got away.
