PHOENIX — Homeland Security agents rescued 20 people being held in a stash house in Phoenix on Wednesday, authorities said.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson Yasmeen Pitts O'Keefe said they got the call around 4 p.m. Wednesday from Phoenix Police about the human smuggling stash house near 27th and Highland avenues.
O'Keefe tells 12 News that 20 people were rescued from the home by HSI and PPD.
Witnesses said two people were taken away in handcuffs while ICE agents took the rest. O'Keefe added that ICE could not say what the immigration status, age or sex of the people found in the home was.
