2 injured, horse killed in north Phoenix crash, police say

Police said the crash happened early Sunday morning near 27th Avenue and Joy Ranch Road.

PHOENIX — Two people were injured and a horse died after a vehicle crashed into the animal early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said the incident happened at 1:45 a.m. near 27th Avenue and Joy Ranch Road in the New River area.

Two people who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No one was riding the horse at the time of the incident.

"Impairment is believed to be a factor in this case, due to hospitalization charges were submitted," police said in a news release.
