A 17-year-old boy in Avondale was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Another juvenile was detained, police say.

The shooting occurred near Van Buren Street and Litchfield Road in Avondale, police say.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A 17-year-old boy was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition, Avondale police said. Another juvenile boy was detained by police following the shooting.

Avondale police responded to a report of a shooting near Van Buren Street and Litchfield Road on Wednesday. When they got to the scene, they found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound while inside an apartment.

The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

Another juvenile boy was detained by the police. Detectives are responding to the scene to investigate.

Police did not release the identities of the people involved or give details of what led up to the shooting.
