Man killed at TSMC construction site after 'uncontrolled pressure release' in tank with waste material

The man was identified by Phoenix police as Cesar Anguiano-Guitron, 41.

PHOENIX — A man was killed Wednesday after he went to inspect a tank with waste material and an "uncontrolled pressure release" occurred, according to officials with the Phoenix Police Department.

Cesar Anguiano-Guitron, 41, was hit by a blunt object and "thrown over 20 feet from the trailer," Phoenix police said.

The situation happened just after 2:30 p.m. near I-17 and Loop 303. Guitron was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but later died, officials said.

Guitron was transporting waste material from the site when police said he was made aware of a possible issue with the tank the material was in. The uncontrolled pressure release happened when Guitron was inspecting the tank, police said.

TSMC released a statement late Wednesday and said the man was a waste disposal truck driver and not a TSMC employee or onsite construction worker.

The full statement is below:

We are aware of an incident that occurred today at our Arizona construction site whereby a waste disposal truck driver was transported to a local hospital. No TSMC employees or onsite construction workers have reported any related injuries. There was no damage to our facilities. We are working closely with local authorities. This is an active investigation, and no additional details can be shared at this time.
