Suspected car thief accused of causing multiple crashes, leaving 1 dead, Goodyear police say

Police arrested 47-year-old Shondale Kyles of Glendale on several charges after the crime spree.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — A man accused of stealing two cars caused multiple crashes which left one person dead and several others injured Tuesday night, Goodyear police said.

Fire officials initially told 12News that a child was critically injured in the crash. Police later confirmed that was not the case.

47-year-old Shondale Kyles of Glendale is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident, including manslaughter, driving under the influence, reckless driving and multiple counts of endangerment, among other charges.

According to a report from Goodyear police, officers were called to the area of Pebble Creek Parkway and McDowell Road for reports of a shoplifting. The witness gave police a license plate number, and officers matched it to a reportedly stolen vehicle traveling east on Indian School Road.

The driver then ran a red light at Indian School and Litchfield roads and crashed into a car which caused the stolen vehicle to roll multiple times. The passenger, a woman who police have not yet identified, was thrown from the vehicle and later died at the hospital.

The deceased individual has been identified as 35-year-old Vanessa Flor-Garcia.

Kyles ran from the disabled truck and stole another vehicle, driving off and causing a second crash before he was arrested. Kyles was taken to the hospital and will face several charges upon his release.
