SURPRISE, Ariz. — A person is dead following a house fire in Surprise, police said.
Just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, fire crews arrived at a house near Arizona State Route 303 and Grand Avenue that was fully engulfed in flames through the roof, Surprise police said. The fire took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish and firefighters stayed at the house four more hours to ensure all hotspots were extinguished.
Because the fire was so extreme, firefighters were unable to get inside the house until the fire was extinguished, police said.
One person, who is unidentified at this time, died. The person's identity is "pending notification" from the medical examiner's office, police said. No firefighters were injured.
