PHOENIX — Police have identified the man who died in a car crash in central Phoenix on Saturday evening.

Phoenix police officers responded to the area of 41st Street and Thomas Road regarding a car crash around 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 9. When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man, who was later identified as 55-year-old John Ybarra, with serious injuries.

Ybarra did not survive his injuries and died at the scene, police said.

Detectives took over the investigation and the area will remain shut down for "a period of time" for the investigation, police said.

According to police, Ybarra likely made a left turn in front of the other car involved, which resulted in the crash. Police did not include any other information regarding the crash or the other car involved.
