Man who died in west Phoenix stabbing identified

The man was identified as 41-year-old Heriberto Acosta, a food truck vendor who was closing up shop for the night prior to being stabbed.

PHOENIX — The man who died after being stabbed multiple times in west Phoenix has been identified, police said.

Phoenix police officers responded to a stabbing call near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street late Saturday night. When officers got to the scene, they found a man with multiple stab wounds and several witnesses.

The man, who was later identified as 41-year-old Heriberto Acosta, was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives said Acosta was a food truck vendor and was in the process of closing down for the night when a vehicle pulled into the parking lot. Multiple men got out of the vehicle and a fight began between the men and the food truck employees, police said.

Acosta was stabbed multiple times by one of the men, police said.

The motive for the attack remains unknown and no suspects have been detained at this time, police said.
