PHOENIX — Police have arrested 31-year-old Marquea Cato in connection with a double shooting that left one man dead and a 19-year-old critically injured.
Cato was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday near 40th Street and McDowell Road. Police said that he was arrested without incident.
Phoenix police officers responded to numerous calls for shots fired near 40th Street and Thomas Road around 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1. Officers were flagged down by a witness when they got to the scene and directed to two men who had been shot.
One man, identified by police as 48-year-old Alan David Whitworth, was pronounced dead at the scene and 19-years-old man was taken to the hospital.
According to preliminary information, the two people who were shot were working on a construction project when an argument broke out with Cato. Cato then allegedly drew a firearm and shot them.
"The suspect shot both victims multiple times and again when the victims were on the ground," police said.
Cato has since been booked into the Maricopa County jail.
