1 man is dead, 1 injured and the suspect is still at large after a shooting at a construction site in Phoenix

A 48-year-old man was killed and a 19-year-old man is in the hospital after the shooting. Police are now asking for help finding the shooter.

PHOENIX — One person is dead and another injured following a shooting in central Phoenix, the city's police department said. The suspect is at large.

Phoenix police officers responded to numerous calls for shots fired near 40th Street and Thomas Road around 8 a.m. on Sunday. Officers were flagged down by a witness when they got to the scene and directed to two men who had been shot.

One man, identified by police as 48-year-old Alan David Whitworth, was pronounced dead at the scene and the second man, who police have not identified but said is 19 years old, was taken to the hospital where he continues to fight for his life.

Police searched for the suspect but did not find the person and said the suspect is still outstanding.

Police said according to preliminary information, the two people who were shot were working on a construction project when an argument with the suspect took place. The suspect then drew a firearm and the shooting happened, police said.

"The suspect shot both victims multiple times and again when the victims were on the ground," police said.

Police are now asking for anyone who has photos or videos of the shooting or who knows who the suspect is and/or where they may be to call Phoenix police at (602) 262-6151 or to call Silent Witness to report their tip anonymously. To call Silent Witness in English, call (480) WITNESS (948-6377). To call Silent Witness in Spanish, call (480) TESTIGO (837-8446).
