PHOENIX — A man is dead after a shooting in north Phoenix, the city's police department said.

Phoenix police officers responded to the area of Thunderbird Road and Interstate 17 in north Phoenix around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a domestic dispute between two men.

The caller told police that there had been an argument that turned physical and one person was shot.

When officers got to the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head. The suspect self-surrendered and told officers he shot the victim, who was later identified as Darius Rain.

Rain was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Police said the suspect provided a self-defense statement.
