1 teen killed, another injured in rollover wreck in Phoenix

A vehicle rolled over and crashed into a tree near 59th Avenue and McDowell Road early Saturday morning, police say. A teen girl was killed.

PHOENIX — A teen girl has died and a teen boy was injured after a car they were both in rolled over and crashed into a tree, according to the Phoenix Police Department

The department said the crash happened at about 4:15 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of 59th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard.

When officers got to the scene of the crash, they found the teens trapped inside the car, which had rolled off the road, through a fence and into a tree.

Officers and firefighters worked together to extricate the teens from the car. They were both taken to a nearby hospital.

Police say the driver, 15-year-old Anamarie Leach, died at the hospital.

The male passenger, who has not been identified, has non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said their investigation shows the car the teens were in was headed east on Encanto Boulevard at a high speed when Leach lost control, causing the car to go off the road, crash into a fence and then a tree.

Police are still investigating the crash.
